Fun and Exciting Festival – Shopping and Experience of Korean Culture at the Same Time! Feel Koreans’ Extraordinary Kindness and Generosity
The 2012 Korea Grand Sale is NOT just a shopping festival. In fact, an international shopping festival has been held around the world including Hong Kong and Singapore. Unlike ordinary grand sales held by other countries, the Korea Grand Sale offers a chance to experience exciting Hallyu contents as well as special discounts. In addition, a part of the revenue is donated to multicultural family support projects. The Korea Great Sale is ultimately a great opportunity to learn and share Korean culture and experience great hospitality and generosity.
Starting January 9th when the Korea Grand Sale begins, special welcome events are being held at Incheon International Airport for a week, such as taking a picture with Pororo, a mascot of Visit Korea Year, and a 100%-winning scratch lottery ticket (free hotel stay, Korea Pass, free theater ticket, etc.).
The opening celebration is slated to be held at DOOTA Shopping Mall in Dongdaemun on January 13th. After the main performances (ex: Nonverbal Performance, Fantastic, Drawing Show, etc.), various gifts (ex: free hotel stay, air ticket to Jeju Island, Korea Pass, etc.) are given by a drawing.
In addition to the thrilling opening events, there are some other fascinating events you can experience while shopping. During the festival period, foreign shoppers who visit Hyundai Department Store are permitted to participate in the KRW 10 million wedding package lottery. This package has recently been popular in China and Southeast Asia. You can experience a high level of Korean wedding culture by borrowing a wedding dress and tuxedo and taking a wedding photo. Those who visit Shinsegae Department Store and Lotte Department Store are also given a chance to participate in the lottery. If lucky, you may win an air ticket, free hotel stay or a Korea Pass.
In addition, a photo exhibition entitled `Communication Time` in which the photos of Korean stars (including Kim Tae-hui, Ahn Seong-gi, Lee Joon-gi and Kim Rae-won) taken with children are exhibited will be held at DOOTA Shopping Mall, Lotte Department Store and Hyundai Department Store to enhance the public`s interest in children who are not adopted because of health problems. In particular, the revenue earned at DOOTA Shopping Mall will be fully donated.
There will be a bazaar as well. The revenue earned through the charity event, auction for the items donated by famous entertainers and an exhibition will be used to help immigrant women from multicultural families visit their hometown, establish a scholarship fund for children from multicultural families, and support living and medical expenses for multicultural families. Koreans, as well as foreign visitors, are permitted to participate in the bazaar and exhibition to share love with poor neighbors.
Shoppers can also watch K-POP stars’ performances in person through the Hallyu program. Approximately 1,000 foreign visitors are being invited to the 21st High-One Seoul Music Awards which will be held at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena on January 19th in celebration of Visit Korea Year. Moreover, many other entertainers are scheduled to participate in the Korea Grand Sale.
