Adding Excitement for International Tourists
The Visit Korea Committee will offer diverse promotions in Gangnam for international tourists during the Korea Grand Sale. Gangnam has been relatively unexposed to international tourists unlike Gangbuk where tourist attractions including Myeong-dong, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Hanok Village are concentrated.
During the Korea Grand Sale, the largest shopping festival for international tourists, a free shuttle bus will operate between Gangbuk and Gangnam, three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) and three time a day (9:40 am., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.). Initially run by Gangnam-gu Office, the Free Shuttle Bus program was extended during the shopping festival to accommodate the large number of international tourists. The route will begin at Lotte Hotel (Sogong-dong) and stop at Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun, Garosugil, Apgujeong, Cheongdam Fashion Street, Bongeunsa Temple, and COEX.
In addition, Cheongdam Luxury Street recently created Light Street. More than 1.3km between Cheongdam Intersection and Galleria Department Store is decorated with 58 LED curtains and bulbs, offering excitement to international tourists during the Korea Grand Sale. Luxury Street is home to world-famous luxury brand shops, chic galleries, and top-notch wedding shops, attracting many Koreans and tourists from other countries including China and Japan.
Sponsored by Hyundai Department Store (Apgujeong Branch) and to expose Gangnam to international tourists, the Visit Korea Committee offered a wide array of promotions, including wedding packages (worth KRW 10 million), to international tourists who purchased items at the department store between February 3 and 5.
In the meantime, a charity bazaar, a drawing event to win Korean stars` beloved items and Love Exhibition were successfully held at Lotte Department Flagship Store. Shinsegae Department Flagship Store, in turn, will offer 2012 Musical Gala Show on February 9th to add fun and excitement to the Korean Grand Sale. The gala show will consists of non-verbal performances by Bibap and Kung and offer scratch lottery tickets through which winners will receive airline tickets, hotel lodgings, Korean Pass cards, and other prizes.
Organized by Visit Korea Committee and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Korea Grand Sale 2012 will last from January 9th to February 29th, 2012 for 52 days. The shopping festival will be joined by over 22,800 shops from 77 different types of businesses across the country including major department stores, duty free shops, hotels, mega discount stores, convenience stores, and theaters, offering up to 50% discounts on a huge number of items.
This year`s festival is also special in that it is the first major event for international tourists this year. Moreover, 2012 will witness over 10 million international tourists visiting Korea; this is significantly greater than the previous festival in terms of the number of participating shops and discounts. The festival will also include a colorful array of events including charity bazaars with items donated by Korean stars and Love Exhibitions (photos showing Korean stars with disabled children). Profits from those events will be donated to multi-cultural families, offering opportunities for international tourists to share their love and compassion for the disadvantaged.
The Visit Korea Committee will continue to offer diverse online coupons to international tourists through its homepage (www.visitkoreayear.com) even after the Korea Grand Sale is over.
