Hosting Six Special Events

to Celebrate the Visit Korea Year Campaign

The Visit Korea Committee, in collaboration with the local government, will host Six Special Events in 2012 to celebrate the Visit Korea Year Campaign. They will help Korea attract over 11 million international tourists this year as well as revitalize tourism across the country.

This year, the committee added the Jinhae Gunhangje (Naval Port Festival) and the International Peace and Life Festival to other special events (Hallyu Dream Festival, Korea Food Festival, Busan International Fireworks Festival, and Jeju Olle Walking Festival) held in previous years.

To be held for ten days beginning on April 1st, the Jinhae Gunhangje will introduce tourists to the beautiful cherry blossoms across Changwon, most magnificent in Korea. Selected as a special event this year for the Visit Korea Year Campaign, the 50th anniversary festival will become more colorful and magnificent in terms of programs and size than ever before, including concerts, a Marine Fireworks Show, and the Yeojwacheon Stream Lights Festival.

In addition, the International Peace and Life Festival will be held in Gangwon-do province to promote the importance of life and global peace centered on the symbolic place, the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). To be held between May 19th and 21st, the festival will offer concerts, bike competitions, and ecological tour programs in Chuncheon, Hwacheon, Cheorwon, Yanggu, Inje, and Goseong, offering abundant opportunities for tourists to experience rich natural and cultural resources in Gangwon-do.

Katie Han, Executive Director of Marketing of the Visit Korea Committee, states, "Last year, over 3 million Korean and international tourists visited Four Special Events including the Hallyu Dream Festival, Korea Food Festival, Busan International Fireworks Festival, and Jeju Olle Walking Festival that were held to celebrate the Visit Korea Year Campaign. The number reflects an 11% increase compared to the previous year. The percentage of international tourists, in particular, increased by 24%." She adds, "The Visit Korea Committee will continue to work together with local governments to attract international tourists mainly staying in Seoul to local festivals and to promote them as major Korean festivals showcasing Korean charm."
