The “2012 K-Pop Cover Dance Festival” Held
to Celebrate Visit Korea Year
- Participate in the Festival by Uploading Your Performance through the Festival Website
The Visit Korea Committee (Chairman Dong-bin Shin) will hold the `2012 K-POP Cover Dance Festival,` a worldwide event under the theme of cover dance, to celebrate the Visit Korea Year campaign.
Cover Dance consists of fans dancing to the choreography of their favorite artist. Anyone who posts their User Created Content (UCC) of a cover dance on the official website (www.coverdance.org) is eligible for the competition. The winners of the first-round online competition will be selected by netizen responses such as hits and recommendation numbers as well as expert evaluations. Winners of the online competition will advance to the overseas local competitions which will be held in 10 countries including Japan, Thailand, Russia, and Spain. The winners of overseas local competitions will perform on the stage of the final round competition in Gyeongju.
The first round of the UCC online competition will start on April 25 on the official website (www.coverdance.org) and continue until the end of June. The second round of overseas local competitions will be held in 10 countries around the world through early September. On September 21, the final competition is going to be held as part of Hallyu Dream Festival in Gyeongju in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The committee will appoint an idol group as the honorary ambassador for the 2012 K-POP Cover Dance Festival sometime around June. The girl group KARA was last year`s honorary ambassador.
The committee will invite the winners of the overseas competitions to visit scenic tourist attractions in Korea and offer opportunities to experience Korean culture and even the chance to meet with their favorite artists.
"It is all the more significant in that the Cover Dance Festival is a participatory event to share multiple cultures rather than a one way cultural exchange, by utilizing the worldwide craze for K-POP, which has become the core of Hallyu (Korean Wave)," said Ju-min Hong, Secretary General of the Visit Korea Committee. "It is a great opportunity to promote Korea as an attractive and dynamic tourist destination and to help people in other countries become interested in genuine Korean culture.
For your reference, K-POP Cover Dance Festival was held for the first time in 2011, and 1,700 teams from 64 countries participated in the first round online competition. 55 winners of the overseas competitions held in Africa, Russia, Brazil, Spain, Japan, the United States, Thailand, etc. performed on the final competition which was held as part of Hallyu Dream Festival in Gyeongju. They stayed in Korea for 7 nights and 8 days to travel to Korea`s famous tourist sites and to experience Korean culture. Those 55 finalists were appointed honorary ambassadors for Korean tourism.
