Korea is the only divided country in the world. Established as a result of the division of the Korean peninsula, The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is the primary symbol of Koreans’ longing for reconciliation rather than confrontation. Due to the cause of its creation, the DMZ has not been tamed by human hands for the last 50 years, making it the world’s foremost haven for wildlife. With the pan-national campaign, Visit Korea Year 2010-2012, the DMZ will be reborn as the PLZ (Peace Life Zone), and will be the site of a festival dedicated to peace. With many programs on offer, including a marathon, the festival will serve as a reminder to the world of the importance of peace.
