As the heart of Korea’s modern history, Cheongwadae Sarang-Chae is where the traces of all Korean Presidents throughout the history and the development of Seoul as the capital city can be examined. The Changdeokgung Palace is the second Palace of the Joseon Dynasty built by Tae-Jong in 1405. Though burnt during the Japanese Invasions of Korea in 1592, Changdeokgung Palace was rebuilt in 1610 and was the location of the office of the King for a long time. During the Japanese Ruling Era of Korea (1910-1945), it was destroyed, however, it was restored in 1991, and finally designated a World Heritage Site in 1997. Among palaces in Joseon Dynasty, Changdeokgung Palace has the most beautiful back garden.

When the reorganization of administrative districts was implemented in 1914, Daesa-dong, Imun-dong, Sujeon-dong were merged into one, Insa-dong. It is adjacent to Jongno, so that since the end of the Japanese Ruling Era of Korea, antique shops became concentrated in Insa-dong. In the 1970s, legal action against fake ancient arts and antiques was reinforced throughout the nation, causing more antique shops as well as art galleries to move to Insa-dong. After the Korean War in 1950, it became a center for commerce, finance, and culture. After Gangnam and Yeouido were developed in the 1980s, its position declined for a time. However, recently, a variety of famous-brand stores aggressively opened in good locations, allowing Myeong-dong to regain its old reputation. In particular, Korean cosmetics stores, which provide high quality products at relatively low prices, ZARA, GAP, FOREVER 21, and other globally-loved mid and low priced brand stores are located here, making Myeong-dong a must for foreign shoppers.

As one of the Han River Renewal Projects, Seoul established Seoul Moonlight Rainbow Fountain on the Banpo Bridge. Colorful water falling from the bridge looks like a rainbow. After the sun goes down, delicate lights and beautiful music are added and the water starts to dance.

On Han River, which is a joining of 15 different branches, 8 docks provide the cruise operation. Sinsa-dong Garosu Gil is the most sensitive area in Seoul about fashion trends. It is the favorite place for contemporary fashion leaders and forms its unique culture. Along the ginkgo trees on either side of the road, outdoor cafes are reminiscent of a beautiful European street. It is famous for cafes and fashion retail shops.

Located in Apgujeong, the center of shopping, Hyundai Department Store provides convenient shopping and a variety of cultural experiences. The term Apgujeong is derived from the pen name of Han Myeong-Hoi, a high ranking government officer in the Josun Dynasty. Borrowing the name Rodeo Drive from Beverly Hills, Apgujeong Rodeo Drive became one of the representative fashion streets in Seoul. Over time, Rodeo Drive has filled with a variety of discount stores, multi-shops, and jewelry shops, and it preserves its own particular characteristics for shoppers.

Located in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-giu, Dosan Park was built in order to commemorate Dosan (pen name) Ahn Chang-Ho and his wife Lee Hye-Ryeon, both of whom are buried in the park.
