Daejeon

The route tours Daejeon, home of advanced science and industry and the host city of the Daejeon Expo. Visitors can tour the Daedeok Innopolis that offers everything about the state of Korean science, technology, and aerospace industry and their future.

Route Introduction

Daejeon Aqua World

This cave-shaped aquarium offers diverse, rare marine plants and animals from around the world. The main hall displays the huge 2.5m-wide sting ray captured in Thailand and over 60,000 fish (500 types) including the living fossil pirarucu (also the largest freshwater fish). Offering nine theme halls, the aquarium displays fish living in Korea, Asia, Africa, and the Amazon.

[Lunch] Korean Food (Joseonok/Mujigae Hanjeongsik)

Joseonok, a famous restaurant in Daejeon offers delicious, healthy dishes. It avoids using artificial condiments and, instead, relies on fermented soybean paste made on its own farm. The restaurant's main menus include Hanbang-dakgomtang (boiled chicken soup with medicinal herbs), Hanbang-dongbotang, and Hanbang-yongbongtang (crucian carp soup with chicken and medicinal herbs). Mujigae Hanjeongsik also boasts fresh dishes using natural ingredients; over 20 menus are offered, including Gujeolpan (an octagon-shaped platter with nine delicacies), raw sliced flatfish and abalone, Galbijjim (braised short ribs seasoned with sauce), dishes with ginseng and jujube, and Sinseollo (a royal casserole with seafood, meat, and vegetables).

Expo Science Park

Opened in 1993 for the Daejeon Expo, this theme park is home to the world's largest IMAX Theater, a simulation center, Body World, and a 3D Theater. It offers many educational and hands-on programs for children and visitors (including a Science Class, Craft Class, and Exploration & Experiment Class) so that they can become familiar with science in an easy, accessible way.

Korea Aerospace Research Institute

The institute offers a glimpse of Korea's aerospace technology. It has conducted research on aircrafts, gliders, and satellite systems; the institute also helped commercialize unmanned aerial vehicles and Korea's own helicopters. Programs offered by the institute let visitors tour and understand aircrafts, satellite, and rockets.

[Dinner] Yuseong Spa (Foot Bathing, Gomtang, and Samgyeopsal)

Yuseong is a city known for hot springs, and this facility offers foot bathing experiences for visitors free of charge; visitors can place their feet in a natural hot spring and recover from travel fatigue. For dinner menus, visitors may want to consider known local dishes including Gomtang and Samgeopsal. Jangsu Jingomtang boasts delicious Gomtang (simmered cow bone soup with rice) and Galbitang (beef short rib stew); Moranjeong is known for Hunje-samgyeopsal (smoked pork belly) and Galbi (grilled short beef ribs).
